Weekend Planner: Too Many Possibilities, Not Enough Time

Here is our pick of activities going on in or around Athens this weekend: from "Metamorphoses" to Darius Goes West celebrations to the Mom Prom.

Where/When: in Watkinsville on Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 8:30 p.m.

Why Go: The Circle Ensemble Theatre Company will perform this critically acclaimed play based on the transformation myths of Ovid. They will do so in and around the pool under the stars at Ashford Manor.

Where/When: on Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Why Go: This exhibition of work by members of the Studio Group collective is comprised of some of the area’s favorite artists and will only be up until the end of the month.

Where/When: on Friday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Why Go: This carnival, part of the Darius Goes West celebration, serves up fun in the form of mechanical bulls, a water slide, pony rides, airbrush tattoos, video games, the Goslabi Challenge, BBQ from and much more.

Where/When: on Saturday at 7 p.m. and the at 10 p.m.

Why Go: The annual celebration of the Athens-based award-winning documentary film project, "Darius Goes West: The Roll of His Life," will feature a screening of the film followed by Darius and the crew giving a Q&A session at Cine. It will be followed by a concert at the Fabulous 40 Watt Club featuring Bubba Sparxx, the Nappy Roots and more fine artists. All proceeds benefit Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy research.

Pricing: $5 at Cine; $10 at 40 Watt

Where/When: on Saturday from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Why Go: You can pull out your old prom, bridesmaid or wedding dress and enjoy a ladies night out dancing and reliving old prom memories while supporting the Loran Smith Center for Caner Support.

Pricing: $25 in advance; $30 at the door.
