Weekend Planner: Too Many Possibilities, Not Enough Time

Here is our pick of activities going on in or around Athens this weekend.

It’s Thursday, and you're looking for ideas of what to do for the weekend. Here are ours: from the Athens Americana Music Festival to the Terrapin Twilight Criterium.

1.

Where/When: on Thursday and Friday at 8 p.m. and Saturday at 7 p.m.; Hendershot’s at 3 p.m. on Sunday.

Why Go: The festival will feature Athens' finest folk, country, bluegrass and Americana performers, including Hope For Agoldensummer, Little Country Giants, Corduroy Road, Dave Marr, Redneck GReece, Curley Maple and many more.

Pricing: $5 at the door on Thursday and Sunday; $8 at the door on Friday and Saturday; $15 for wristband for 3 nights.

2.

Where/When: 300 block of College Avenue on Saturday at 11:30 a.m.

Why Go: will feature races for children ages 5 to 14 and all participants will receive prize packages and recognition for their achievement.

Pricing: Free without T-shirt; $10 with T-shirt.

Where/When: Washington Farms in Watkinsville on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Why Go: will feature farm activities, unique arts and crafts vendors, festival foods and live entertainment, as well as delicious strawberries ready for picking.  

Pricing: $8 per person for ages 2 and up.

4.

Where/When: Downtown Athens on Saturday at 7:45 p.m. (women’s race) and 8:45 p.m. (men’s race).

Why Go: The Terrapin Twilight Women’s and Men’s Criterium attract cyclists representing teams from all over the nation and the world and these races are a highlight of the region’s spring events.

Pricing: Free for onlookers.

5.

Where/When: Hugh Hodgson Hall at the on Saturday at 8 p.m. 

Why Go: The Athens Master Chorale, whose devoted members have been sharing great music with our community since 1989, will perform selections from Bach, Beethoven and Brahms.

Pricing: $10 general admission; $5 students.
