Herschel Walker's Latest Game: TV Food Competition

The football star goes from the playing field into the kitchen.

With his Clayton Street restaurant up and running, former University of Georgia Heisman Trophy winner Hershel Walker is enjoying another venture.

On Monday, Jan. 6, he will be part of "Rachael vs. Guy Celebrity Cookoff" on the Food Network.

According to website information, Walker and other celebrities will participate in Season Three of the series. The show airs at 9pm Eastern time.

The celebrities will compete in team challenges to test their skills, website information says. This season, each episode will feature a special Food Network guest judge, who will determine which celebrity is sent packing. At the end of the six-episode series, the remaining celebrities must "cook off" to see who will be the champion.

Other participating celebrities include Vanilla Ice, Penn Jillette and Florence Henderson.

Now 51, Walker owns Herschel's Famous 34 Pub & Grill on Clayton Street in Athens and also owns a food-service business, Renaissance Man Food Services. Since his retirement from football, he also has dabbled in Mixed Martial Arts.

As for his tastes in food, Walker says "Simple, Southern, soul food" is his cooking style, in the website information. "I want to show that athletes can cook as well."

Walker won the Heisman Trophy, college football's top honor, after the 1982 season, his last with the Bulldogs. He retired from pro football after the 1997 season.
