UGA Students Develop AthFest App

Festival will be "even more awesome" with app, says director.

There’s a phone app for everything. Even AthFest.

UGA students in a Grady College class in the New Media Institute have created an app that helps those attending the six-day music and arts festival to plan and organize their time.

They can learn who is playing where and when, find out information about each band and even hold up a “flickering lighter” because the app has this encore-pleading feature. There’s also a map of downtown Athens.

Four students developed the app: Advertising major Marisa Negri, mass media arts major Matt Evans, advertising major Jessica Severens and sociology major David Cherof.

“AthFest is always awesome, but it will be even more so with this app,” said Scott Shamp, who directs the New Media Institute.

The free AthFest app has just been cleared and is now available for download in the iTunes App Store. The iTunes preview is available at http://bit.ly/kH1acB

The year marks the 15th year for AthFest. It runs from June 22-26, and it includes events for children as well as adults.
