Izzy's Fundraiser to get her New Hips: Update

AAHS is raising $5,000 to help Izzy, who is only one year old but has severe hip dysplasia, get new hips.

Izzy is so happy that everyone is talking about her and helping to raise money for her hip surgery! To date, we’ve raised over $2,300 including several individual donations, our Ten Pins Tavern Puppy Bowl fundraiser and our Izzy Office Contest. Congratulations to La Fiesta for winning the office contest and to Fox’s Pizza for donating their lunch pizza party prize!

So how’s Izzy doing while she waits for her surgery? She’s still a happy girl as usual, since she doesn’t really know that all dogs don’t have this weird pain in their hips. She has been losing weight and is down to 56 pounds from 68, so weight loss has taken some of the stress off of her hips for now. She recently visited the vet who said her x-rays don’t look very good, but that she may continue to get better without her surgery for the time being while her surgery fund increases. She is starting to be in a bit more discomfort when getting up and down and running, but she’s much happier being able to get some exercise rather than being cooped up in a garage like in her last home. Izzy has another appointment with the veterinarian in mid-March where the doctor can meet with her foster parents and get some more at-home information about her condition. We would love to get a second opinion to confirm the surgery and treatment process that Izzy needs to follow, but we can’t do so without more funding first.

Though we have gotten about halfway to our $5,000 goal, we still need your support in raising the rest of the funds for Izzy’s veterinary visits and surgery. You can donate through our website’s Donate Now page or through Izzy’s ChipIn page—if each of our Facebook friends donated just $2 (which some already have), we would have the $5,000 needed. If you have already donated to Izzy’s fund, you can still help her by hanging her poster at your workplace or school and by sharing it through your email listservs. Izzy and AAHS really do appreciate all of the support she’s gotten so far, and we’re confident that we can make it to our $5,000 goal to give Izzy her new, healthy start to life!
