The Athens Area Humane Society has a lot of young supporters who have requested to incorporate us in their birthdays and youth groups by gathering donations from our online Wish List, and we love to see compassionate people at such young ages! We are not able to offer birthday parties or a designated area for our humane education activities for these wonderful people, but we have an idea for renovating part of our shelter to create a room just for this purpose!

By creating this new room and utilizing our shelter space better, we can offer more opportunities for young people to get involved to help the animals, and we can open up the space as a low-cost renal meeting area for youth groups. We would also charge a fee for the birthday parties, so we would be promoting humane treatment of animals while raising money to help them and while providing a fun, safe environment for children (and an alternative birthday party idea to the few in town).

One of our shelter staff members has construction experience and is willing to donate her time to this project, so this $5,000 Intuit grant would go toward the building supplies, furnishings and decorations for the room, and supplies for birthday parties and humane education activities.
