ACCA Invites You To Lead With Experience

RSVP has been helping adults find the right opportunity for almost four decades. As America's largest volunteer network for adults 55 and over, it has over 300,000 volunteers nationwide.

Are you over 55 and looking for ways to become more involved with your community?  Do you want to have a positive impact on your community? You should join RSVP.  ACCA and the local RSVP program will be hosting a cook out and volunteer recruitment celebration on Thursday, July 11, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Athens Community Council on Aging, 135 Hoyt Street in Athens.  There will be hot dogs, hamburgers and a brief presentation on the benefits of volunteering through this local program and the impact it has on the local community.

RSVP has been helping adults interested in community service find the right opportunity for almost four decades.  It is America’s largest volunteer network for adults 55 and over and has over 300,000 volunteers serving nationwide.  Locally, RSVP is one of three parts of the Senior Corps program at Athens Community Council on Aging (ACCA). The other two programs are the Senior Companion and Foster Grandparent programs.

Did you know?  Georgia ranks 45th in the nation in overall health status. Athens-Clarke County is one of the top three poorest counties in the United States for a population of more than 100,000.  More than half of the garbage sent to Georgia landfills is recyclable or compostable. 65% of Georgia’s 4th graders scored below proficient in reading, math, and/or writing. You can help in these areas.  RSVP offers volunteer opportunities across Northeast Georgia focusing only on pressing community needs through agencies such as Meals on Wheels, the American Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, the Clarke County Mentor program, the Recycling Division, and much more!

The mission of the Athens Community Council on Aging is to promote a lifetime of wellness through engagement, advocacy, education and support.  Founded in 1967 by local citizens, ACCA is a non-profit 501 (c) 3 organization and aims to maintain and enrich the lives of older persons with 15 programs in 12 Northeast Georgia counties. ACCA’s programs enable older persons to live independently at home and offer opportunities for employment, volunteerism, and other activities. ACCA is a resource for education, information, referral, counseling, and general assistance.
