Making Dreams Come True - One House at a Time

What is it that makes buying a house such an emotional process?

The most enjoyable part of selling real estate is the people. You see, houses just sit there. A house is just wood, metal, glass, ceramic, and if we're lucky... maybe some granite ;-) Those materials aren't what makes the house something special though, it's people that make a house special.

From the moment the designer or architect draws up plans for the house, people are involved. The architect starts working out the layout, the structure, style, efficiency all with a vision they have in mind. That vision creates a emotional response in the designer that they hope will match the desires of a buyer somewhere. Think about all the styles of homes available: log cabins, Victorian, Split Level, Ranch, Cape Cod, Colonial, Bungalow, Cottage, among many others. Each of these styles creates an image in our head, one that we have associated with specific emotions.

The log cabin has the air of "ruggedness" that makes those residing in it feel closer to nature. While on the opposite end of the spectrum, a studio apartment or loft in a downtown area of a busy city may help the owners feel more connected to the buzz of city life.

Selling real estate though, it's even MORE than that. You see, I've met individuals at many different places in their lives, but everyone has a vision for their own home. Whether they rent a 1 bedroom apartment, or they own a home currently, they have an image in their mind of where they WANT to be.

My job? Well, my job is to make it happen. It's not always easy, and it's a lot harder than shopping for groceries or electronics. A house brings out more emotions in a buyer than any other "transaction" of their lives. Why? Because it's HOME. Buying a house is a realization of their dreams. It's the culmination of hard work, diligence, and vision. Buying a house means that they can paint the walls whatever color they want, they can change light fixtures, they can improve something that's really theirs

When buyers walk through houses, they are envisioning their pets, children, spouses, friends, family in those houses. One of my most recent buyers was looking for the place she could bring her horses - with whom she had been separated from for years because of a nasty divorce. Many buyers see their lives play out in the homes they walk through.

So, you see, helping people buy and sell homes is not easy, because I first have to understand how they FEEL. I gather information and feedback so that I begin to take ownership of their dream - I begin to see it and feel it. You see, there's a reason that we call it the "American Dream" or the "Dream of Homeownership" - it's because that's how it feels.

I'd like to think that I help my buyers and sellers make their dreams their REALITY
