ADD Drugstore Changes Hands

New owner plans to keep things as they have been in the iconic Athens, Ga,, business.

It was the perfect match: a young pharmacist who comes from a family of pharmacists who wanted to buy a small, community-oriented business and an experienced pharmacist wanting to sell a business that is a neighborhood institution.

And now LaFayette, Ga., native Kevin Florence, a graduate of , is the owner of Jim and Lorene Horton's . There's still a lanky guy behind the back counter, filling scripts, but this one is 29, not 72.

"We're going to keep stuff the same," said Florence, who lives in Beechwood Hills with his wife, Rachel, an elementary school teacher, and Luke, their 11-month-old son. "We're not getting rid of anything."

The lunch counter, the Post Office station, the eclectic array of gifts and sundry items, the local books and products--everything will remain as it was.

ο»Ώο»Ώ that plagued him last year, said his daughter Kathy, who will continue in her bookkeeping duties. Her father is doing so much better, she said, but he hasn't recovered the stamina needed to be on his feet for most of the day, filling prescriptions.

Both he and Lorene Horton are expected to come in regularly, but to visit and advise, not to work.

So far, said Florence, "it's been a lot of fun, and everybody's been very welcoming and I learn who everybody is. I wanted to find a small place with a sense of community, and this is it."
