Athens Companies Participate in 6th Annual Startup Riot Event in Atlanta

"The event provided great exposure, and we had a number of potential investors request follow-up meetings - it couldn't have gone any better."

Wagglez, TuneWolf, College Canvas, BrainPik and IS3D were invited to participate in the Sixth Annual Startup Riot event held in Atlanta on February 20. Making up about 17% of the event’s participants, these Athens companies showed that Athens is rapidly becoming a prominent startup hub in the Southeast.

When asked about his Startup Riot experience, Tom Robertson, the founder of IS3D, said, “It was an awesome day, and all of the Athens startups did themselves proud. The event provided great exposure, and we had a number of potential investors request follow-up meetings - it couldn't have gone any better.”

IS3D is a company that creates software and games to teach scientific concepts using the latest technology to increase student engagement.

Rebecca Bowden, founder of College Canvas, said, “Startup Riot was an amazing event. There were so many great companies present, and we made some great new connections. All of the Athens companies did an amazing job and should be really proud.” College Canvas is a startup that encourages creativity on college campuses by providing an online market for students to sell handmade items.

Matt Downing, Head of Operations for Wagglez, said, “It was an honor for Wagglez to be invited to attend Startup Riot 2013. We met lots of interesting tech startups like Banyan and made some great contacts!”

Wagglez is a company that saves consumers money at local restaurants, stores and bars by focusing on retailer coupons that a business owner creates, giving local businesses a platform to promote their goods and services.

Startup Riot was a great opportunity for companies to gain recognition and credibility in the startup community. Four of the five companies that attended are member companies of Four Athens, which exists to support the startup community in Athens. Being chosen for this event is an honor afforded to only 30 entrepreneurs out of all who apply, and it speaks great volumes to startup ventures Athens.
