For those looking to lighten their load and bring a few smiles during the holidays, Goodwill has a few donation tips.

For residents looking to bring some last minute cheer and claim deductions for the upcoming tax cycle, the number of days left to give is limited.

  • Clothing: Look through your old clothing and shoes. Weed out what you don't want, never wear and doesn't fit. Be sure to check pockets for lost treasures.
  • Books: E-books have provided great things for many people, including more shelf space. Considering giving away old books that you have extra copies, including digital copies, of.
  • CDs and DVDs: Have a subscription to Netflix? Hulu? Have an iPod? You might not need those old CDs and DVDs anymore.
  • Kitchen Appliances: Kitchen gadgets are a great thing, but if you only use your margarita maker once or twice a year, consider giving someone else some special tools.
  • Cell Phones: Old cell phones can make great gifts for those in need. As technology continues to develop, it's also a continuing source of environmentally harmful trash. Considering giving away that old phone instead of tossing it.
  • Household Items: Easter baskets, old candleholders, baskets and other knick-knacks can clutter the house quickly. Considering giving away some unused decorations and items so your favorites can shine.
  • Computers: Outdated computers can take up house space, and cannot be thrown away at most landfills. Many donation centers, including Goodwill, will send old electronics to companies that will recycle the products responsibly.
