Grindhouse Killer Burgers Coming to Five Points in Athens, Ga.

"I love the neighborhood," said owner Alex Brounstein. "I feel in love with that location years ago."

The old Clinkoco gas station at Lumpkin and Woodrow will soon be gone. Officials with McWhirter Realty Partners plans to start clearing the land this week. Grindhouse Killer Burgers hopes to open a restaurant in the spot by next April.

"There aren't a lot of options in Athens for getting a burger and a beer," said owner Alex Brounstein, who started his business as a lunch counter in the Sweet Auburn Market in Atlanta. "There's the Grill, and Clocked, but we're kind of going in a different direction from Clocked."

There's a Grindhouse Killer Burgers restaurant on Piedmont, near Cheshire Bridge and the Gorilla Car Wash.

Brounstein says the one in Five Points will be two stories, with a covered deck on the second floor. The building is being designed by Katrina Evans of E+ E Architecture in Athens.

Grindhouse Killer Burgers will serve hamburgers made out of a custom meat, plus onion rings, fried pickles, French fries and "healthy salads," said Brounstein, an Emory graduate. Other fare includes award-winning homemade chili and a turkey and veggie burger.

He expects a meal--a quarter pounder, French fries and a Coke--to cost about $7. And he says he thinks the restaurant will offer something for families, singles and students alike.
