Jittery Joe's Coffee Roaster Moving to Barber Street

The following information comes from the Jittery Joe's Facebook Page. With Selig Enterprises preparing to develop the Armstrong and Dobbs property, the East Broad Street building where the roaster has been for years may be demolished. Or moved, if Jack Crowley has his way. Regardless of what happens to the building, the roaster end of the business is moving.

Dear Friends of Jittery Joe's,

As many of our loyal followers now know, the time to say goodbye to a dear friend is close. We have called 780 E. Broad Street our home for almost 14 years. Iconic, authentic, drafty, friendly, unpretentious, non-commercial, and awesome are just a few of the terms used to describe the Roaster. Charlie and Christian, the true professionals that they are, continue to roast, roast, roast, all the while conversing with friends new and old alike as they stop by for a chat. Beans roasted in this old building are now served all over the country - every bean lovingly crafted in the old tin building on the edge of downtown Athens.

But life moves on, and we have found a new home. At the end of August, we will be moving to 425 Barber Street (site of the Quonset Hut). Like the Broad Street location when we initially moved in, the Barber Street property is unique and needs a little TLC.

The bones of the building are vintage Joe's. We fully intend to transform our new home into something uniquely Jittery Joe's - creative artwork and woodwork will appear, bikes may hang in strange places, Beverly Babb will introduce world class ironwork. It will evolve and become something all of Athens will be proud of - and we will continue to produce some of the world's best coffee. And it will have something new and wonderful to our business...PARKING!

We will have a Tasting Room, patio, room for concerts, and special events. We will also have a great production facility, significant space to expand, and a place for our customers to train and learn about coffee. Our location will change, but our heart, character, and mission to roast great coffee will remain the same. Look for much more news to come on our move, but we wanted to go ahead and get the word out to our friends. We are very excited about this new beginning, as well as for the very bright future of our hometown.
