Open on Thanksgiving in Athens, Ga.

You need to get your reservations in ASAP.

 

Maybe you can't face drying out another turkey and wondering, once again, what you're going to do with that greasy carcass? Don't make food, make a reservation for any one of these wonderful local restaurants. After eating food prepared by someone else, you can then waddle home to a clean kitchen and empty dishwasher.

Foundry Park Inn offers a Thanksgiving dinner that's as popular as ever. As of a few days ago, the only remaining spots were at 3pm and 3:30pm. Patrons can visit a salad station, a carving station with turkey and various trimmings, and Honeybaked ham. There's also grilled chicken in a chestnut cream sauce and tilapia with seafood mousse. The vegetables include squash and mushroom casserole, sweet potatoes, green beans, wild rice and mashed potatoes. For desserts, people will find sweet potato, pumpkin, peach and apple pies, as well as chocolate cake, brownies, cookies banana nut pudding with apple spice cream. The cost is $25.50 per adult, plus tax and tip. Children from 5 to 12 years old pay half price and the meal is free for those younger than five.

The Red Fearn Grill, located in the Holiday Inn, serves a Thanksgiving buffet from 11am until 2:30pm. It's a tradition for many Athenians. A carving station will feature turkey and spiced ham. There will also be crab-topped tilapia, petit filets, cornbread dressing, garlic whipped potatoes, grilled asparagus, sweet potato soufflé, roasted mushrooms, green beans, squash casserole, glazed carrots and creamed corn. If that's not enough, there's also shrimp cocktail, various salads and a large dessert station. The $22.95 price tag (for adults) includes a beverage and dessert. Children pay $11.48. There's a 10 percent discount for those 55 and older. If you're planning on going, you should make your reservation soon, by calling 706 548 4433.

Mama's Boy will be open on Thanksgiving and serving up a Southern Thanksgiving feast from 11am until 2pm. (And brunch beginning at 8am.) A price tag of $9.99 will get you sweet potato soufflé, giblet gravy, cornbread dressing, green beans, cranberry sauce and turkey. Peach cobbler is sold separately. Of course, IHOP and Waffle House are open if you want a waffle or some scrambled eggs.
