Veterans' Career Expo Set for May 3 in Athens

Over 50 employers, educational institutions and resource agencies will participate.

The Georgia Department of Labor and the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) will co-sponsor a career expo for veterans and other job seekers Thursday, May 3, in Athens.

The expo will be held from 9 a.m. to 12 noon at the VFW Post No. 2872, located at 835 Sunset Dr.

“As more of our veterans end their terms of service, I want to ensure that we welcome them back home properly and that we acknowledge what they did for our country,” said State Labor Commissioner Mark Butler. “Although we are seeing signs of growth in the economy, it will still be awhile before we recover completely.

The Georgia Department of Labor will continue to work hard, matching the unemployed with companies in a position to hire. This effort includes career expos, such as this one, that introduce veterans and potential employers.”

The expo will feature more than 50 employers, educational institutions, and resource agencies that offer assistance to job seekers. Some employers will be hiring, while others will be discussing possible future employment opportunities with the job seekers. Other organizations will be providing educational and other resources. Applicants should bring plenty of resumes and be prepared to fill out company applications and to interview for available job openings, including part-time, full-time, entry-level, supervisory, and management positions.

Those expected to participate in the expo include: ADI Marketing, Advantage Staffing, AFLAC, Anthony International, Athens-Clarke County Police Department, Athens-Clarke County Sheriff’s Office, Athens-Clarke County Unified Government, Baldor Reliance, Carter’s/Oshkosh B’gosh, CDL of Georgia, Certain Teed Corporation, Clarke County School District, Cox Media Group-Athens, CSX Railroad, Dayton Superior, Department of Driver Services, Dial America, Etcon Employment Solutions, FedEx Ground, Foldel Healthcare and Training School, Georgia Pacific, Goodwill of North Georgia, and Hire Dynamics.
