Weaver D's Teetering On The Brink: Is Its Demise Automatic?

The popular soul food restaurant is falling on hard times, and may soon have the same fate at the REM trestle.

Weaver D's Delicious Fine Foods, which lent its slogan "Automatic for the People" to an REM album, may soon have to close its doors after 26 years in business. More people need to cue up for mac 'n cheese and barbecue and fried chicken and other delicious fare. And soon.

According to an article in Flagpole, Dexter Weaver knew his business was dropping off, but he didn't realize how dire the situation was until an employee of a natural gas company threatened to turn off the gas.

Weaver has been honored by the prestigious James Beard Foundation and the Southern Foodways Alliance for his soul-food cooking, Flagpole says.

So get down there to East Broad Street and order up a mess o' greens and other fare. The food is yummy.
