Work Begins on a Downtown Retail and Residential Complex
The development project will include several buildings.
The first of a few buildings slated for the SunTrust property is coming before the Athens Clarke County Planning Department. The project includes 50,000 square feet of retail and residential space. Here's what the notice of the hearing says:

Request: A permit application has been submitted for review of the foundation and footing plans for Athens Apartments, a downtown mixed-use development. The project includes construction of a new building with seven levels of residential units above two levels of mixed commercial and parking space, and an additional below-ground level of parking. Site plans for the development were submitted in September 2013.
