Zoës Kitchen: Fast, Yummy, Healthy Food

When you try Zoës Kitchen, be sure to get the white beans.

Zoës Kitchen opened last Thursday on Alps Road, in the lot where a hamburger joint had been. The new restaurant is a far cry from a fast food place, though one member of the wait staff at Zoës described it as serving “fast, casual.”

The menu offers pita sandwiches with different combo fillings; regular sandwiches; shrimp and chicken kabobs, chicken roll ups and hummus plates. There are all kinds of yummy salads. Grilling is the preferred method for preparing meats and vegetables, not frying.

My daughters and husband inhaled a piece of signature chocolate cake. The restaurant even offers decaffeinated hibiscus iced tea.

The interior is bright and colorful, the staff is helpful and the wait for food is minimal. During the month of August, we learned, drinks are free.

A children's menu features more than the standard chicken nuggets or fried something or other. There are roll-ups, grilled chicken strips and fresh fruit cups, among other choices.

Our kabobs came with rice, grilled vegetables and large salads. My daughter’s grilled chicken dinner came with a side of white beans with rosemary that was just….delicious.

If they hadn't eaten the beans--a first for one child--so quickly, I could have happily stolen them and had a full meal. When I go back, alone, that’s what I’m planning to do.
