Broad View Farms, Now Serving Athens' Area

Local, Certified Naturally Grown Farm takes root in Winterville

Broad View Farms has just relocated to Winterville from Madison, Georgia. You may recognize owner, Tripp Maffett, from the Oconee County Farmer's Market. This year, he and wife, Jessica, are expanding their horizons and offering a CSA program. CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) is a growing trend in the world of sustainable agriculture. This is a system by which the consumer buys a share of the farm, and in return, receives a weekly box of the freshest available produce. They will also sell produce to local restaurants and at several local markets.
Broad View Farms is thrilled to be Certified Naturally Grown (CNG). CNG is the grassroots alternative to certified organic. Most of the requirements are the same, no synthetic pesticides, herbicides, fungicides or GMO seeds are allowed. Maffett says, "using sustainable methods is so important to us; we have to take care of the land if it is going to provide for us, long-term." Pests and disease are kept under control through the use of cover crops, compost, and crop rotation. Diversity on the farm is also key to their sustainable model. Broad View Farms plants about 65 varieties of vegetables and over 20 different flowers. They focus on unique varieties of very high quality.
Maffett says he has always had a passion for growing healthy and delicious food, what began as a hobby has grown into a thriving business. As new parents, The Maffetts are keenly aware of the necessity of good nutrition. They are proud to provide this to their family and to the wider community. There are still a few shares open for the 24 week CSA, which begins on April 15th. You can find Broad View Farms on Facebook for more information.
