81-Year-Old's Souped-Up Plane Hits Car at Athens Airport

The plane's new engine was too strong for its brakes, the Athens Banner-Herald reports.

An 81-year-old Athens man spent years honing a new engine for his home-built airplane, but when he tried it out at Ben Epps airport, the rest of the plane couldn't handle it.

Too strong for its own brakes, the plane crashed into a car and hangar at the airport on Monday, the Athens Banner-Herald reports.

The propeller lopped off the car's roof, and the crash resulted in minor damage to the hangar. The plane was seriously damaged, too, the paper reports.
