2014 Small Business Summit coming to The Classic Center April 24

ATHENS, Ga. – Northeast Georgia businesses, nonprofit organizations and students are invited to register for the 2014 Athens Small Business Summit. This event, which promises a full day of business education and networking, will take place at The Classic Center on Thursday, April 24.

Summit attendees will find valuable resources, experienced speakers, multiple networking opportunities and a wide selection of educational breakout sessions. More than 250 businesses attended last year’s inaugural event and a large crowd is expected to return for this year.

Organized by Athens-based business consulting firm StartStrategic and presented by Charter Business, the summit offers a new lineup of exciting features. Georgia Secretary of State Brian Kemp will be in attendance to present an introduction to the day’s events and 2011 CNN Hero Derreck Kayongo will deliver the keynote address.

Kayongo is the Co-Founder of the Global Soap Project, a multi-million dollar nonprofit organization that provides fresh soap to impoverished communities worldwide. Just a few years ago, Kayongo came to the United States as a penniless Ugandan refugee. Working with nothing but a vision and a desire for social change, Kayongo recycled hotel soaps and began what would develop into a successful and acclaimed humanitarian movement. This session will inspire and educate attendees of all professional backgrounds.

Businesses, nonprofit organizations and educational institutions have partnered with summit organizers to help promote core business fundamentals in the Northeast Georgia professional community. The University of Georgia Terry College of Business and Brenau University are among the many qualified presenters of this year’s event. Community Connection of Northeast Georgia will deliver an all new track session geared specifically towards the needs of nonprofit organizations.

A Small Business Resource Fair will be held at the summit, allowing attendees to meet face-to-face with local service-based industry representatives. Additionally, the Georgia Department of Labor will assist with the Job Fair and Career Expo that is free for all local job seekers. Vendor booths for each of these events are available for purchase.

Registration for the summit is now open and is $129. Visit SmallBizAthens.com to register online, learn how to become an exhibitor or for more information.
