“Slings and Arrows of Outrageous Fortune: Queering Saint Sebastian”

Dr. William Underwood Eiland, director of the Georgia Museum of Art, traces the evolution of representations of Sebastian, the 3rd-century martyr and saint. Dr. Eiland’s study focuses on the ways in which artists adapted Saint Sebastian’s history and iconography to create a fixture for both Catholic hagiography and gay culture. This lecture will include sexually explicit images and may not be suitable for all audiences. Cosponsored by UGA’s LGBT Resource Center and GLOBES.
