Drawing Inspiration from Nature: Meet the Author of Middlewood Journal

Avid Bookshop is honored to announce an author visit and book signing with Helen Correll on Tuesday, November 13, 2012, from 6:30 pm to 7:30pm.

With a foreword by naturalist Janisse Ray, Middlewood Journal gathers Correll’s illustrations and writings from her hikes and blog of the same name to create a treasury of discoveries. Correll draws the language and color of life in the South to give breath to a poetry of names: Blue Darner dragonfly, Horse Nettle, Red Bellied Woodpecker, Tufted Titmouse, Heal All, Starlings, White Wood Aster, Rue Anemone, Wild Blue Phlox. Witness the change of seasons through the blooms, bird songs, and balance of sunlight in Correll’s delicate prose and drawings.

Helen Scott Correll is a freelance writer, illustrator, and
photographer from Spartanburg, South Carolina. She is a
member of the Society of Children’s Writers and Illustrators
and the Guild of Natural Science Illustrators. She has
published articles and illustrations in numerous magazines,
including Wildlife in North.
