Reaching Higher: Aviation Art

Aircraft are more than just transportation; they are marvels of design. On Saturday, March 2 at 2:00 p.m., you are invited to learn more about aircraft as art with “Reaching Higher: Aviation Art,” a program featuring aviation photographer John Slemp. Slemp will share photographs and stories of aircraft, vintage to modern, and the pilots who flew them. Located at the Lyndon House Arts Center, this program is brought to you through a leadership grant, The Boomers: Reflecting, Sharing, Learning, given to our community by the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services.

Slemp’s passion for photography was cultivated while he was stationed in Germany, during his 11 years in service to the U.S. Army. In the twenty years since then, he has worked as a commercial photographer, and you can find his work hanging in multiple Marriott Hotels across several states. Slemp’s aviation photography was selected for inclusion in the American Society of Media Photographer’s “Best of 2008” list.

This event is free and open to the public. For directions on how to view this program live online, visit BoomersInAthens.org. The program will subsequently be archived on the website, along with a large and growing archive of sundry Community Snapshots. For more information, please call (706) 613-3650. The Lyndon House Arts Center is located at 293 Hoyt St., Athens.
