On Sunday, April 21, the Nancy Travis Childcare Project will hold its annual fundraising event; Trot for Tots. The race includes a Tike Hike at 1:30pm, a 5K run at 2:00pm, and a 10K run at 3:00pm. The start/finish of the race will be at Sandy Creek Nature Center located on Highway 441 North in Athens. The entire course is on paved trails and runs through beautiful Dudley Park as well as the Nature Center.
The Tike Hike is FREE. Entry fee for the 5K race is $20 and the 10K race is $25. Runners can register for the race online at www.active.com
All proceeds of the race will benefit the Nancy Travis Childcare Project whose mission is to provide childcare to families experiencing homelessness or living in poverty. The Nancy Travis Childcare Project envisions all Athens-Clarke County children having access to quality childcare. This is the only program in Athens offering this kind of support to children and their families.
By providing childcare, the Nancy Travis Project allows parents to rejoin the workforce and become more financially secure and to establish a foundation for improved family life. In addition, research studies have shown, children who attend high-quality childcare are more likely to delay parenthood, earn a college degree, be consistently employed, and to make no request for public assistance. Indeed, nurturing our children helps our entire community.
Please support the Nancy Travis Childcare Project (www.nancytravis.org) at the Trot for Tots Race on Sunday, April 21. It means Hope for Babies and Care for Kids.
