Vegas Comes to Athens: Play Poker with the Pros!

If you're 18 or over and a fan of Texas Hold 'Em, Darius Goes West, Inc. is offering you a rare opportunity to test your skills against two Vegas pros on Saturday, February 1, at The Rail in Athens. All proceeds from "Dealing for Darius" will benefit muscular dystrophy research.

This one-night Texas Hold 'Em tournament brings two Vegas pros to the Classic City. Gavin Smith (aka "Birdguts") is a Canadian professional player and a former World Poker Tour Player of the Year. Bryan "Devo" Devonshire took second place in his first-ever World Series of Poker event in 2006, and to date boasts more than $2 million in live tournament earnings.

Darius Goes West, Inc., is an Athens nonprofit based on the locally-made and multi-award-winning documentary, Darius Goes West: The Roll of His Life.

The grand prize—in addition to bragging rights—is a Vegas casino package, with cool prizes for second and third place finishers. All who attend will have a chance to receive an autographed photo of (or one taken with) the pros.

To play in the tournament, a $50 donation is requested if signing up in advance or $75 if opting to pay at the door. Once the tournament is underway, there will be an optional $20 add-on after the first break for an additional $5,000 in chips. Checks, cash and credit cards accepted.

To sign up, go online to www.dariusgoeswest.org/vegascomestoathens; visit The Rail any Thursday - Sunday evening and ask for Dee Simbro (Georgia Poker Club); or call Dee Simbro (706-224-8001) or Barbara Smalley at Darius Goes West Headquarters (706-255-9301). Darius Goes West is a 501(c)(3), so your donation is 100% tax deductible.
