Want to Seek Ghosts on UGA's North Campus?

The University of Georgia Student Alumni Council will present its annual Ghost Tours of North Campus on Oct. 22 and 23 at 8 p.m. 

This year’s theme is “Nightmare on Broad Street.” The event features a guided tour spotlighting locations with unique histories and the ghost stories that accompany them. The tour will be led by students clad in ghoulish costumes. 

Individuals interested in participating should meet at the Arch on Broad Street before 8 p.m. on either Oct. 22 or Oct. 23. Participants should dress accordingly and wear comfortable shoes for an outdoor walking tour.

“With more than 225 years of history, this campus offers an abundance of stories that fit right in with the classic ghost tale,” said Evan Tighe, assistant director of student programs. “This time of year, the ‘stately shadows ‘neath the pine trees’ seem spookier than usual.”

 “The Ghost Tour is one of the most unique events on campus based on the amount of history it brings to light,” said SAC member Mark Rush. “This year, we hope to make the Ghost Tour scarier and more fun than ever.”

The event is free to attend, but canned food donations are strongly encouraged. The donations will be delivered to the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia. Last year’s event brought in more than 400 pounds of donated food, and Tighe says that SAC has set this year’s goal at 600 pounds.

“What a great event,” Rush said. “We’re having fun, maybe getting a little scared, learning some interesting facts about UGA’s history, and supporting a great cause.”
