Downtown Parade of Lights Set for Thursday, December 5th

This year, there are more than 70 entries.

The annual Athens-Clarke County Downtown Parade of Lights is scheduled for Thursday, December 5th, starting at 7:00 p.m.

This year, more than 70 entries will compete for such prizes as “Most Original Float,” “Best Use of Theme,” and “Best Use of Lights.” Performing units will be judged during the parade itself, and the best overall float will receive the “Mayor’s Award”. This year’s theme is “The Sounds of Christmas.”

The parade begins on the corner of Dougherty and Pulaski Streets ending in front of City Hall for the traditional tree lighting ceremony, hosted by none other than Santa. The Athens-Clarke County Downtown Parade of Lights is sponsored by the Athens-Clarke County Department of Leisure Services and the Athens Downtown Development Authority.
