Wee Read Storybook Pancake Breakfast

Wee Read Storybook Pancake Breakfast

BB&T and the United Way of Northeast Georgia’s Wee Read program are joining forces to bring to you the Wee Read Storybook Pancake Breakfast, as part of this year’s BB&T Lighthouse Project. The Storybook Breakfast is a fun‐filled event designed to emphasize the importance of reading to young children. Children will get to meet dozens of their favorite storybook characters and enjoy a hot pancake breakfast.  They will be provided with an autograph book of their very own to get their favorite characters’ autographs, have the opportunity to get their picture made with their favorite storybook character, chances to win free books and much, much more. It will be fun for all ages!

The Wee Read Storybook Pancake Breakfast will be held on Saturday, June 22nd, 8am – 11am in The Classic Center Atrium. Price for admission is $5 for children (age 12 and under) and $15 for ages 13 and older. Businesses and group organizations are also encouraged to sponsor a table for $100 (10 seats per table). You can purchase tickets by calling The Classic Center Box Office at (706) 357-4444 before June 22nd or on the day of the event.

The BB&T Lighthouse Project is a company-wide community service effort held in May and June that gives their associates the opportunity to live out the BB&T mission to make the communities they serve better places to live. Collectively, BB&T associates have donated more than 200,000 hours to local charities participated in more than 4,400 community service projects and touched the lives of more than 6 million people in 25 states. The BB&T Lighthouse Project provides service and corporate financial support to many overwhelmed and underfunded nonprofit organizations, like the Wee Read Program in Clarke and Oconee Counties. In 2012, approximately 26,000 BB&T associates (85 percent of employees) volunteered during business hours to participate in 1,100 community service projects.

All proceeds from this event will go towards the Clarke and Oconee Wee Read Programs. United Way Wee Read and local community volunteers have partnered with the Dolly Parton Foundation’s Imagination Library program to send a colorful, new, age-appropriate book each month to every registered Athens-Clarke County or Oconee County child under 5 years of age! Currently, Clarke County still has a remaining need for this program for 3,500 children and Oconee County has a remaining need of 475 children. As of today, 3,191 children have graduated (or turned age 5) from the Wee Read Program in Clarke County and 135 have graduated from the Oconee County program.

We are very excited about this new event to help raise funds for the Wee Read Program and hope to see you there! Again, for tickets call The Classic Center Box Office at (706) 357-4444. For additional information you can call Jeanine Russell at (706) 543-5254.
