Bashful Barn Babies

Maybe one day things will change.

Maybe one day the only people who have pets will be the kind of people who will properly care for them.

Meanwhile, Kitties and Puppies dumped out on country roads like ours by uncaring humans is still a major problem.

Hence my Kitty dilemma.  Long story short, pregnant cat dumped on our road, ends up in neighbors barn, she fed them but never had them neutered, and now there are five.  And the neighbor moved and left them there.

Sigh.  I can't abide abandoned furry critters.

Over the last 36 hours I have trapped the poor terrified shy creatures and moved them to a large dog crate, traumatizing them and me, and I have to put them through more torture by taking them to the Spay/Neuter Clinic first thing Monday morning.

Not that the staff there aren't loving people doing great work, but the kitties don't know that.  All they will know is that it looks and smells funny and they aren't going to feel good for a while afterwards.  They just want to go back to their big ole barn full of hay and meeces.

I tried to tell them, as they all five stared directly into my eyes with their brilliant green ones, that this was going to help them.  That this was necessary.  That they are all so very beautiful and precious.  I tried to tell them that there would be new homes for them where they'd be fed daily and not left to fend for themselves.

I'd like to believe that they understand.  They certainly seemed to.  They let me open the cage and give them a nice big bowl of food and fresh litter box.
The Mama Kitty has stopped hissing at me.   They like Jewel's lullaby CD and all cuddled up together in the fresh straw inside the crate as I played it for them.

Other good hearted and animal loving neighbors have agreed to take the two harder-to-place older kittens, who I think are close to one year.  I am so grateful for this.

But the Mama Kitty and the two ten week old (ish) babies still need a home, and I would love to let them stay together.  If you could see the way they snuggle and preen each other, you'd be hard pressed to separate them, too.

They've been through so much.  They are not tame and cuddly at this point, but they might learn to be.

If I were able, I'd have....oh....probably 50 or 60 cats, but if so I'd be without a husband, and, well.....I really dig him.  Always have.  Always will.

I can't keep the Mama and the babies for several reasons, mainly that I already have a dozen animals to tend to that I love and adore.

I just know that somewhere out there is the perfect place for these sweet kitties.  They don't require much.  A daily bowl of kibble, constant fresh water, freedom to roam and do what they do best:  Lay in the sunshine.  Catch mice. Be pretty.  Be precious.

They are free....to the right home.  Please let me know if these beautiful creatures can come to keep you company.
