Update: WSB-TV reported a man has been arrested in connection with the Monday morning motel fire. Richard Ashley McGaha, who had been staying with the woman, has been charged with felony criminal damage to property, the TV station reported

The Athens-Banner Herald reported the fire destroyed the room and prompted an evacuation of guests before 1 a.m. Monday, May 19. The identity of the woman was not immediately known.
The fire occurred at America’s Best Inn and Suites on Atlanta Highway. It was contained to the room, but there was smoke and water damage nearby.
