20 Indicted in Fake ID Ring Based at UGA

Twenty students, most of them from UGA, were indicted this week by the Clarke County Grand Jury for their alleged involvement in a counterfeit ring that created hundreds, if not thousands, of fake IDs.

According to the Athens Banner Herald, the fake ID process was supposedly run by roommates William Finley Trosclair, 22, a UGA student assistant, and Tyler Andrew Ruby, 23. The investigation began in August 2011 and took UGA Police and officials with Western Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s office to many different states and campuses.

Authorities believe the two young men used others to photograph customers in their dorm rooms, collect needed information for the IDs and then deliver the final products, according to the newspaper story. Each ID cost $50 to $100.

The Banner Herald says Trosclair was charged with eight counts each of the manufacturing and distribution of false identification documents and manufacturing and distribution of false identification documents containing unauthorized government seals. While Ruby was charged with nine counts of both crimes, according to the indictment.

The 18 other codefendants face various counts of distributing the fraudulent documents, the newspaper story says. The offenses charged by the grand jury are felonies.

• Bevin Lisanne Bithell, UGA, one count each of distribution of false identification documents and distribution of false identification documents containing an unauthorized government seal.

• James William Boswell, University of Alabama, four counts each of distribution of false identification documents and distribution of false identification documents containing an unauthorized government seal.

• Alexander Karl Dugan, UGA, three counts each of distribution of false identification documents and distribution of false identification documents containing an unauthorized government seal.

• Eric Leigh Horn, UGA, two counts each of distribution of false identification documents and distribution of false identification documents containing an unauthorized government seal.

• Angelina Kathleen Innis, UGA, two counts each of distribution of false identification documents and distribution of false identification documents containing an unauthorized government seal.

• Kathryn Elizabeth Kyle, UGA, two counts each of distribution of false identification documents and distribution of false identification documents containing an unauthorized government seal.

• Shelby Lauren Lits, UGA, one count each of distribution of false identification documents and distribution of false identification documents containing an unauthorized government seal.

• Charles Martin Lotz, UGA, two counts each of distribution of false identification documents and distribution of false identification documents containing an unauthorized government seal.

• Ciara Jae Montes, UGA, three counts each of distribution of false identification documents and distribution of false identification documents containing an unauthorized government seal.

• Garrett Beau Mullaney, UGA, three counts each of distribution of false identification documents and distribution of false identification documents containing an unauthorized government seal.

• Lance Taylor Patton, UGA, one count each of distribution of false identification documents and distribution of false identification documents containing an unauthorized government seal.

• Anna Caroline Rosskopf, UGA, three counts each of distribution of false identification documents and distribution of false identification documents containing an unauthorized government seal.

• Tyler Andrew Ruby, Gainesville State College, nine counts each of distribution of false identification documents and distribution of false identification documents containing an unauthorized government seal.

• Katarina Lynn Schatz, UGA, three counts each of distribution of false identification documents and distribution of false identification documents containing an unauthorized government seal.

• Arvind Sekar, Northwestern University, six counts each of distribution of false identification documents and distribution of false identification documents containing an unauthorized government seal.

• Graham Perry Shaw, University of Mississippi, five counts each of distribution of false identification documents and distribution of false identification documents containing an unauthorized government seal.

• Cameron Luke Spencer, UGA, two counts each of distribution of false identification documents and distribution of false identification documents containing an unauthorized government seal.

• Andrew Joseph Trosclair, UGA, one count each of distribution of false identification documents and distribution of false identification documents containing an unauthorized government seal.

• William Finley Trosclair, UGA, eight counts each of distribution of false identification documents and distribution of false identification documents containing an unauthorized government seal.
