A Woman Suspect Facing Death Penalty Says Husband Acted Alone

Implicated in the murder of a convenience store clerk, Shameeka Lashae Watson says she wasn't involved.

Shameeka Lashae Watson and her husband Clarence McCord III stopped at a Timothy Road Golden Pantry so she could use the restroom, but police say they ended up murdering the 25-year-old clerk who worked there, according to a story in the Athens Banner Herald.

They either acted together, or as Watson claims in documents recently made public, her husband acted alone on the night of December 30, 2010, using a screwdriver and knife to stab 25-year-old KeJuan Charde Hall 31 times, the story says.

Watson told investigators that when she came out of the restroom, her husband told her that he had killed the clerk, and Watson says that McCord had blood on his hands, according to the story.

Hall was pregnant, Athens Clarke County Police said. A Clarke County grand jury indicted both McCord and Watson on murder and feticide charges. Prosecutors filed notice that they intend to seek the death penalty for both Watson and McCord, the story says.
