A woman who wrote a suicide note with the intention of "blowing out her brains," ended up in Athens Regional getting a mental health evaluation. She got to the hospital because of Athens Clarke County Police Officer Robbie Cochran, according to a story in the Athens Banner Herald.

She called a 911 dispatcher close to 7pm on Wednesday to tell them she was going to kill herself with a gun, the story says. Officers who arrived at her home found family members outside, who told them the woman did indeed have a gun.

They radioed for Office Cochran, who is known to be skilled at dealing with upset people. According to the newspaper story, he talked to the woman through an open window while her family tried to reach her on the telephone. Eventually, she threw the gun out of the window and retreated to a bathroom.

There, she told Office Cochran she wanted to ride with him in his car to the hospital, the story says, not in an ambulance. He took her to Athens Regional, where she was evaluated.
