Alleged Drunk Driver Hits Taxi, Sends a Passenger to the Hospital

The information in this story comes from the ACC Police Department. An arrest doesn't mean a conviction.

At 2:43am, April 28, a United Taxi (1996 Ford G150 Van) was travelling south on Milledge Avenue, driven by a man from Clarkston, GA. As the taxi entered the intersection with West Broad Street, it was struck in the right side by a 1997 Eagle Talon heading east on Broad and driven by Ramico Hernandez of Reed Street in Athens.

After the crash, Hernandez exited his vehicle and fled the scene on foot. A passenger in the taxi followed Hernandez, and was able to point out his location to responding officers. Hernandez was arrested and charged with Failure To Obey a Traffic Control Device, Hit and Run, Driving Without a Valid License, Underage Consumption of Alcohol and Driving Under The Influence of Alcohol.

Two passengers in the United Taxi sustained injuries in the crash. One, from Clarkesville, was transported by ambulance for treatment of her injuries, and another, from Lawrenceville, was treated at the scene by EMS.
