Illegal Fireworks Cause Fire, Three-Legged Dog Needs Help and Rubio Visits Local Mall

Gwinnett County Fire Investigators say illegal fireworks caused damage to two businesses in Lawrenceville. 

Crews were called to World Finance and Las Canas at a shopping plaza at 1956 Duluth Hwy at 4:35 am Thursday. When they got there, they found smoke and fire coming from the center of the roof. They were able to quickly extinguish the fire on the roof.

Investigators say the illegal bottle rocket fireworks landed on the roof of the building, igniting the fire. The fireworks were shot from the adjacent parking lot.

– Midtown Patch

A three-legged rescue dog hit by a motorist late last month is facing a long recovery.

Mini, a Hurricane Katrina rescue already maneuvering through life on just three legs, suffered a fracture, several cuts, lesions, and a quarter size hole in her thigh/groin area that went to the muscle underneath. She also has an ACL tear that will call for another surgery in three to six months to correct. 

fundraising website has been created to help with Mini’s medical bills. The goal is to raise $5,000 and as of July 5, almost $750 had been contributed.

Marco Rubio’s tour promoting his new autobiography “An American Son: A Memoir,” made a stop at  the day after .

Many waiting in line felt Rubio would be the best choice for Romney’s running mate. If picked, Rubio would be the first Latino to run on a Presidential ticket.
