UPDATE: Athens Police Looking for Burglary Suspect

A search was conducted in the area of Luke Road in Bogart, Ga.

Authorities Wednesday afternoon were searching a section of Bogart for a suspect originally thought to have been involved in a home invasion.

Athens-Clarke County Police later clarified, according to the Athens Banner-Herald, that a man kicked in a door to a residence in the area of Luke Road off of Fowler Mill Road, realized someone was home, and ran.

Hilda Sorrow, ACCPD public information assistant, said a resident of the home had been sleeping around 1:10 p.m. when he heard a noise. The resident awoke to find a man standing in the hallway, so he grabbed a handgun and pointed it at the intruder, Sorrow said. Upon seeing the victim and the gun, the man fled.

There was no physical contact between the burglar and the victim, she noted, and nothing appeared to be missing.

Around 1:25 p.m., the OSCO sent out a Nixle alert about the incident, describing the suspect as a black man "wearing a black jacket and possibly nylon pants." He's about 6 feet tall and 180-200 pounds, Sorrow added.

The investigation points to a 19-year-old resident of Stonehenge as the possible suspect, police told the newspaper.

As of 3:45 p.m., Sorrow said the active search had been suspended but the investigation continues.
