Athens Teenager Indicted for a Home Invasion and Attempted Robbery

The teenager faces numerous felony charges.

More than two years ago, police say Devonte Montez Rains knocked on a house door, and, when the resident answered, shot the man in the face. The house was on Langford and Rains was then 17 years old.

According to a story in the Athens Banner Herald, Rains then took cash from the injured man, ordering him to lie on the ground. The bleeding man was able to describe the shooter to police, who arrested Rains a week later. Since April 2012, Rains has been in the Clarke County Jail, held without bail.

While he has been in custody, police have linked Rains to an earlier crime, the story says. In January 2012, someone on Branch Street punched a Pizza Hut delivery man, a University of Georgia student, in the face while he was making a supposed delivery. The man drove off before anything else happened. Police believe Rains was the assailant.
