Athens-Clarke PD: Bicyclist Hurt in Accident; Burglaries, Theft Also Reported

ACCIDENT
  • A Weymanda Court  resident was riding his bicycle east on South Lumpkin Street around 10 a.m. April 28. James Harvey Elerson, III, of Statesboro, driving a 2003 BMW X5, was exiting the Golden Pantry at Five Points. As he attempted a left turn onto South Lumpkin, he pulled in the path of of the cyclist, causing him to strike the driver’s side. He was transported to Athens Regional Medical Center. Elerson was cited for Failure to Yield Entering Roadway.

BURGLARY

  • A West Broad Street residence was burglarized between 5 a.m. April 25 and 7:30 a.m. April 28. A TV, DVD/VCR, and DVDs were stolen. Values were not given. An Athens man said he returned to his Mellwood Drive residence around 7:55 p.m. April 28. He saw a young male running from behind the residence into a wooded area. Officers cleared the residence and no other suspects were located. The resident reported several items had been moved and a game console and DVD player valued at $150 had been stolen. The suspect was described as wearing dark clothes.
  • Between 7:15 p.m. and 9:40 p.m. April 28 an East Paces Drive residence was burglarized. A cellphone and laptop valued at $750 were stolen.

THEFT BY TAKING

  • Tires and rims and a lawnmower were reported stolen from an Elbert Street location between 7 a.m. April 26 and 2:55 p.m. April 28. The items were valued at $2,750.
