Athens-Clarke Police: Drug Arrest, Burglaries, Battery Reported

ARREST

On May 26 officers saw a male walking in the 700 block of Dearing Street multiple times during the day. This area has had problems with drug use and sales. Around 1 p.m. they saw him sitting on the steps at a residence. He told police he was there to visit a relative. One officer attempted to make contact with the resident; however, no one came to the door. The male consented to a search of his person. As the one officer started to search him, the other saw the male drop something to the ground. The items, three baggies, were retrieved. Two contained suspected marijuana and the other contained suspected crack cocaine. A search of the offender revealed cash and a green leafy substance loose in his pocket. This substance field-tested positive for marijuana. The suspected cocaine field-tested negative; it will be sent to the State Crime Lab for further testing. Fredrick Antonio Mitchell, 23, W Broad Street, was arrested and charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana and Possession with Intent to Distribute Cocaine.

ATTEMPTED BURGLARY

An attempt was made to burglarize an Old Epps Bridge Road residence of between 1:45 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. May 26.

BATTERY

Around 3:10 p.m. on May 26 officers responded to an unknown problem at a Hanover Place residence. Upon arrival, contact was made with a woman who advised she and a person known were arguing. At one point she was pushed so hard she fell to the floor. EMS responded and transported her to Athens Regional Medical Center for a complaint of injury. The suspect left before officers arrived. The suspect returned to the scene. He confirmed that he and the woman were arguing. He said as he attempted to leave, he was attacked by her and her relatives. They pulled his shirt and grabbed him by the neck. He had marks on his neck. No arrest was made at this time.

BURGLARY

Between 4 p.m. May 24 and 2 p.m. May 26 a barn at a Dekle Road residence was burglarized. A weed eater, edger, riding mower, push mower, padlock, and a trailer were stolen. The trailer is 8’ X 10’, black in color. The items were valued at $9,685.
A Broad Acres Court residence burglarized between 2 p.m. and 7:45 p.m. on May 26. Cash, a debit card, ID, and various other cards with a total value of $34 were stolen from her purse.
