Authorities Arrest Man for Robbing Sun Trust Bank

Following a joint investigation by the Athens-Clarke County Police Department, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Tommy Charles Webb, 37, of Athens, has been apprehended and charged with Armed Robbery, Aggravated Assault, and Theft by Taking Motor Vehicle.

The charges stem from the bank robbery of the SunTrust Bank located at 3445 Atlanta Highway in Athens on Saturday morning, October 5th. The suspect was armed with a black semi-automatic handgun. 

Webb was described as a slender, light-skinned black man or a Hispanic. He wore a black T-shirt with a towel over his face. The T-shirt/towel had holes cut out so the robber could see. The man also had on a baggy, long-sleeve T-shirt, long, black jean shorts below the knees. The suspect wore black athletic shoes. 

He escaped in a gray Nissan Altima car owned by one of the bank employees. Car was recovered in the area of Windy Hill Way. The investigation continues.
