Body of Missing Monroe Man Found

Charles Stephen Parker was missing for a month.

For the past month, his family in Monroe never lost hope.

They prayed and publicized the fact that went missing one Sunday after church on a trip to Athens to look at a possible business investment. They offered $10,000 for information leading to finding him.

On Monday, authorities found the body of the 25-year-old assistant manager in Oglethorpe County, according to a story in the Athens Banner-Herald.

Jim Fullington, who's the head of the GBI's Athens field office, told the newspaper the death is a probable homicide. A local resident found the man's decomposing body in an abandoned well in Oglethorpe County's Sandy Cross community.

That's only a few miles from the Smithonia community, where authorities tracked his cell phone after he was reported missing, the Athens Banner-Herald story says.

Ditto that, Lotta. Such a tragedy. Such a waste of a life.

This story just chilled me to the bone. It just seems like something really ugly happened to this young man - I hope the GBI and all investigators involved can get justice for him and his family.

Jason, I agree. One minute he's looking at property, the next, he's dead and decomposing in an abandoned well. Whoever did that to him should know he or she will be found and punished. Severely.

Rural Justice is a strange animal. There seems to be a strange pattern of decomposed bodies being found in Oglethorpe County. Several years ago, after a long search the decomposed body of another man was found not far from the area investigators searched. Truly the only way, evil will cease is when good men and women speak out before, crimes are committed. Be ye Plaintiff or Defendant, the life you save may indeed be your own. Many prayer's to the grieving family, May this end a long tradition of criminal behaviour in our Region. Thank you for all that searched, and found this young man's remains.

Sorry for the loss my heart goes out to the family. I followed the story since day one it is very sad how someone can be so cruel. I hope they find the person who did this

I knew this young man and his family. I once was a member of their church. This young man was a charismatic, personable and pleasent human being to be around. To hear that he was murdered by gun shots and dumped into an old well as discarded trash, continues to echo the state of our depraved, despot and God-less society!! God please strengthen and comfort his family and may the murders be found and rot in hell!! MD Johnson
