'Bomb Threat' At Cedar Shoals Was Just a Firecracker

The school was briefly evacuated last week.

Here’s another reason not to play with firecrackers:

Authorities answered a call last week that was initially described as a bomb threat at Cedar Shoals High School in Athens.

But it ended up being just a firecracker.

Police and fire personnel responded at 2:42 p.m. on May 9, and were told by witnesses that the “sound of a boom” was heard and a “large amount of smoke” was seen in a bathroom area.

According to the Athens-Clarke County Police, the school was evacuated briefly until the source was discovered.

The firecracker damaged one of the bathroom stalls.
