Bond Hearing Continued for Accused Killer of Waffle House Waitress

The family of the 78-year-old Oconee County man facing a murder charge needs more time to select an attorney, his public defender says.

The 78-year-old man charged with the murder of Misty Myrick remains in the Oconee County Jail without bond after a hearing on the matter was continued at the request the public defender's office.

Talmadge Edward "Bud" Powell was brought before Superior Court Judge Patrick Haggard Monday morning.

Sheri Smith of the Western Judicial Circuit Public Defender's Office asked for the continuance and cited an issue of representation, saying that Powell's family is still meeting with prospective attorneys. District Attorney Ken Mauldin had no objection.

Judge Haggard continued the bond matter until a later date.
