Police: Car Collides with Bicycle and SUV Strikes Pedestrian

Athens-Clarke County Police say the investigations into the accidents with injuries Friday on Prince Avenue less than half a mile apart are ongoing.

Athens-Clarke County Police say a bicyclist and a pedestrian were injured on Friday, May 24, in two separate car accidents that both occurred on Prince Avenue.

Just before 5 p.m., Albert Ligotti, 86, of Athens was driving a 2001 Lincoln Town Car westbound on Prince Avenue and attempted to turn left onto Talmadge Drive, according to a news release. Kathleen Colville, 22, of Marietta was eastbound on Prince Avenue on a bicycle. Ligotti's vehicle turned into the path of the bicycle and the two collided, police said.

Colville was transported by EMS for treatment of non-life threatening injuries, and charges against Ligotti are pending, the release stated.

In a another accident on the same road at an intersection less than half a mile away, a pedestrian was struck.

Sibyl Henderson, 47, of Athens was westbound on Prince Avenue in a 1992 Ford Explorer. As she attempted to turn left onto Oglethorpe Avenue, police said her vehicle struck a pedestrian in the crosswalk as the man attempted to cross Oglethorpe Avenue, walking eastbound.

Robert Richard South, 52, of Athens was transported by EMS for treatment of injuries. The investigation is ongoing and charges are pending, according to the news release.
