Cassandra Norwood Pleads Not Guilty in Stabbing Death of Newborn in Athens, Ga.

The Cedar Shoals graduate has been in jail since the incident last fall.

Cassandra Norwood, 21, was arrested last fall and accused of stabbing to death her own newborn in her family home on the Eastside of Athens. She had hidden her pregnancy from her parents and allegedly hid the baby's body in a trashcan after she killed him.

On Tuesday, in Clarke County Superior Court, Norwood pled not guilty to charges of malice murder for the death of the infant boy, according to a story in the Athens Banner Herald. She also pled not guilty to felony murder, aggravated assault and charges of possession of a knife during the commission of a crime.

Law enforcement officials told the court that the infant had been stabbed numerous times with a kitchen knife, the ABH story says. Norwood was denied bond in December.
