Before 10am on Friday, a seven-year-old boy was taking his mother's rent money to the leasing office of their apartment complex on Seagraves Drive. He was carrying $310 in a clear plastic bag.
A tall, thin black man who was playing basketball called out to him and approached the little boy as he passed the court, said the report. The man pushed the child to the ground and took the money, then fled on foot toward Woody Lane.
Police arrived at 11 to talk with the child and his mother, according to the report. He told them what had happened and said the man who took the money had long braids, and wore a white t-shirt and baggy jeans that showed his blue underwear.
The seven-year-old wasn't injured during the robbery, the report said.
The investigation continues.
No, the question still is why would a mother put her 7 year old child in harms way by carrying that much money. True, the man who harmed the child is a low life but the child should have not been running the errand in the first place.
