Driver who killed pedestrian in December is sentenced.

On Thursday, Chelsea Clark, 25, of Red Fox Run, plead guilty to 2nd Degree Vehicle Homicide, Failure to Maintain Lane, and License Violation.  

She was sentenced to two years probation and her license was suspended.  

This was the result of an accident which occurred about 9:20 in the morning of December 5, 2010, on Barnett Shoals Rd near Whit Davis Rd. It was a windy, clear day, and the roads were dry, according to police records.

Clark apparently lost control of the car she was driving and struck Cort Cloupsy, 51, of Silverwood Court, who was walking on the side of the road with his wife Elizabeth Cloupsy. The couple had on reflective vests and were walking their dogs.

Clark’s car spun out of control, crossed the road and hit the Cloupsy’s, coming to rest on Cort Cloupsy, who was killed. His wife was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Cort Cloupsy was the owner of Madison, Ga.,-based Southern Textiles and Laminating, a family business. He was survived by his wife, three children and other family members.

 Between 9:00 a.m. on May 5 and 4 p.m. on May 19, someone tried to enter a vacant apartment at Fourth Street Village, 690 Fourth St.  

 Holly Rhiannon Oglesbee reported that her North Avenue residence was burglarized between 1 a.m. and 7 a.m. on May 19. A camera with a memory card valued at $200 was stolen.  

 The Tall Tree Rd residence of Wanda Faye Echols was burglarized between 12:30 and ! p.m. on May 19.  A TV valued at $1,450 was stolen.  A possible suspect was named.

 Between 10:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. on May 19, the Coleridge Court residence of Tametha Rena Collins was burglarized. Taken were a PlayStation, PlayStation portable, and video games, valued at $580.

 A TV valued at $250 was stolen from the Harve Mathis Rd residence of Jill Marie Blanton sometime between 4 p.m. and 10:20 p.m. on May 19.

 Leonard Chastkofsky of Parkway Dr said he was walking along Parkway Dr around 4:45 p.m. on May 19. Near the Greenwood Dr. intersection. he passed a white male walking in the opposite direction. As he passed Chastkofsky, the white male grabbed his book bag which contained papers and food (total value $20) and fled on foot north bound on Carlton Terrace.  After arriving, officers search the area but were unable to locate the suspect, who was described as 5’8”, mid-30’s, wearing a white shirt with red stripes.  The book bag was found in the Carlton Terrace /Parkway Dr area.  

 Vernon Payne reported scrap metal, an I-beam, 55-gallon drums of used motor, radiators, vehicle bumper, sign post, and a vehicle motor were all stolen from his Payne Drive property between 12:00 noon on May 13 and 8:00 a.m. on May 1900.  The total value was $10,010.

Two men were charged with strong arm robbery, aggravated assault and obstructing or hindering a law enforcement officer after a 26-year-old male reported being assaulted after leaving downtown Athens around 2:20 this morning.

Mark Chavez, 22, of Social Circle, and Michael Thompson, 21, of Oconee Street in Athens were arrested this morning after allegedly robbing and assaulting the victim near the corner of Prince Avenue and Pulaski Street.

According to the report, the victim said he was tackled twice and punched by the suspects. An officer later spotted the duo matching the victim's description and were later positively identified by the victim.
