Officers responded to reports of a possible dead person at Stadium Village Apts, 250 Little Street, around 3 p.m. on July 13.  Upon arrival, they learned there was a female, believed to be dead, at the bottom of the pool. They retrieved the body of 20-year-old Tara Caitlin Andrews of  Meigs Street and sent it to the State Crime Lab for an autopsy.  The investigation continues. Update: An article in the Athens Banner-Herald said autopsy reports confirmed that Tara Caitlin Andrews' drowning was accidental. 

Between 9 a.m. on July 12 and 9 a.m. on July 13, a stove and two refrigerators were stolen from a vacant Cherry Lane residence owned by a Tanglebrook Drive resident. An air conditioner unit was also damaged when copper was stolen from the unit. The total value was $650.

Officers responded to an alarm at Athens Pawn Shop, 615 Hawthorne Ave, around 12:07 a.m. on July 14.  A glass case containing handguns had been broken. It is unknown at this time if anything were stolen.

 Around 12:05 on July 14 officers responded to an alarm at a Dearing Street home owned a Pine Valley Drive resident.  Shortly after officers arrived, the owner arrived. He said the occupants were in the process of moving out and nothing appeared to be missing.

Members of the Drug Task Force executed a search warrant at 1250 Spring Valley Road on July 13. They recovered two stolen handguns and a stolen laptop.  A quantity of crystal methamphetamine, marijuana, and cash were seized.   Dexter Leon Wood was arrested and charged with Possession of Crystal Methamphetamine with Intent to Distribute, Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute, two counts Theft by Receiving (firearms), and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony.
