Crime Blotter -- A Drug Deal Gone Wrong and more news from the ACCPD

ARREST

On May 21, around 11:00am, officers on patrol were in the bottom parking lot of Rocksprings Homes off Paris St.  They saw a male walking toward them with his head down. When he looked up and saw the officers, he quickly started walking backwards. When asked to stop, he turned and began running. After a brief foot chase he was apprehended. He was holding a small bag of suspected marijuana in his hand. A search of his person revealed several other small bags of suspected marijuana. A field test of the substance was positive for marijuana, and a computer check revealed he had been warned to stay off Housing property. The man was charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana, Drug Offense within 1,000’ of a Park, Criminal Trespass, and Obstruction.

AGGRAVATED ASSAULT / ATTEMPTED ROBBERY

An officer met with a resident of Bishop, GA, at Athens Regional Medical Center. The man told officers that around 9:00pm, May 21 he was walking to the package store on Oconee St. It started to rain so he stopped under a nearby awning and was approached by two black males. One grabbed his arm and the other went for his wallet. He said he was thrown to the ground and kicked.  While fighting back he sustained a cut to his hand and injuries to his ribs and shoulder. The suspects were unable to get his wallet. The man said he has seen the men in the area but he does not know their names other than a possible nickname. They were 25 to 30 years of age. One was of average height, slim build, with a crew cut, and wearing jeans. The second male was heavier, with corn rows, and wore shorts.

ARMED ROBBERY

An Ashley Cir resident reported that he and a friend were returning to their vehicle at Alps Shopping Center, 1320 Baxter St. when they were approached by two black males. One had a knife and demanded his money. The man said he gave the suspects $350 and they entered a white Honda Accord and left the scene. The man entered his vehicle and followed the suspects while calling 911. He followed the vehicle to Pauldoe Cir where the suspects exited the vehicle and fled on foot. The investigation has determined this was a drug deal that went bad.  The suspects have been identified and warrants have been issued.  Arrests are pending.

BURGLARY

A Sayemore Dr. woman reported her residence had been burglarized between 1100 May 17 and 0715 May 21. Purses, a heater, fan, and food processor were stolen. The total value was $255.  

A woman reported she heard someone jiggling the doorknob to her bedroom around 11:00am May 21. She got up and when she opened the door, she saw a black male running out of her residence.  She found nothing missing.  He was described as 5’6” to 5’8”, 200 to 220 pounds, muscular, long dread locks pulled back in a pony tail, with a thin, well groomed beard. He wore a brown baseball cap, red shirt, and black jogging pants. This was not reported until around 1:15pm.

A Wynter Cir, Winterville, residence was burglarized between 5:00pm May 18 and 10:00pm May 20.  A TV, CD player, home stereo, iPod stereo, and pillows were stolen. The total value was $2,910.
